This is a big announcement about the future of ZenAcademy.

It’s no secret that it’s been a tumultuous several months for us. We’ve had to reduce our team size considerably, and have struggled to find revenue streams and PMF in many respects.

I’ve done a lot of soul searching of late and come to a startling albeit somewhat obvious in hindsight observation, which is going to significantly change the direction of all of this:

I… don’t want to run a business.

I don’t want to run or build a company.

I don’t think I am particularly great at it, at least not without co-founders to take over the areas I don’t like and am bad at. I think it’s largely a distraction for me, and it hurts my ability to do what I actually want to do and think I am good at: running a community, building a community, and being an active member of the space and finding opportunities.

I got extraordinarily burned out a few months back and went through a terrible time with my mental health, feeling burdened, overwhelmed, and like I was letting everyone down constantly by not being able to deliver. I set impossible expectations for myself and felt forced to do things I didn’t want to do, and that’s never a great situation. I thought “if only I can create this course, and market it well, it can turn into a revenue stream, to support the business, and give value to our community, and all will be well in the world”. There was a lot of “If only this, if only that”.

I was chasing things without my heart being in it, and it took an enormous amount of effort to do a tiny amount of work.

It’s been an endless struggle trying to both build a profitable business and build a thriving community that benefits token holders.

The realization I have had is kind of an “aha” moment which is… I don’t actually need ZenAcademy to be a profitable business. I don’t need to make money from it, if our goals shift a little. If we scale back operations and bring the focus back to what it was in the early days, this can be a killer community with value given to everyone here, and without me or a team needing to focus on bringing in revenue. The main reason we needed revenue was to pay for a team to try and deliver value to the community, and it was a viscous circular cycle.

Moreover, I get to spend my time doing what I want to do and I think that actually benefits the community so much more at the end of the day too: being an active member of the space, researching projects, finding alpha, keeping an ear to the ground, being able to better advise 333 members and people showing up to our founders calls, and just generally being.. more useful.

It’s a win-win in my view, because I am truly passionate and endlessly excited about all that web3 has to offer and I want nothing more than to spend all my time digging into all the areas of our space.

I genuinely feel like this is a positive announcement and will reinvigorate and streamline what it means to be a Denizen, a 333 Club Member, and part of ZenAcademy.

I’m excited to lead this community into 2024, and 2025, and beyond. Hopefully a bull cycle, a market abound with opportunities, and one where I can share those opportunities with everyone here.

Anyone who has been active over the last 1-2 months has probably noticed the change and shift. I have become a lot more active, and I am doing everything I can to help our community and our members find their respective wins in this space — whether it’s by trading, building, connecting, or anything else.

@everyone I wanted to give you all a heads up that I'm going to be making some structural changes to the Discord server, some fairly significant. You'll all know that I do this every few months to keep up with the market and adding/removing channels as necessary, but I'm hoping to create a bit more of a permanent structure this time around. We'll see.

The biggest change is going to be for Students. For a while know anyone with a Student ID has had near full access to the server, a change that I made a few months back as the market was so bearish and if someone wanted to be here.. we welcomed them! But there has been some feedback from Denizens and paid token-holders that this diminishes their value a bit, and.. I agree! It's also a different stage of the market now and hopefully will be for the foreseeable future, and in the spirit of trying to drive value back to those who have purchased a token to be here, I'll be stripping away a lot of the access for Students.

There'll still be a chat area for the Students, and they'll have access to all of our free resources, but the rest of the server will be for those holding one of our paid tokens.
